PUTRAJAYA: The Registrar of Societies (RoS) today said it could not process Pakatan Harapan's registration application due to lack of information from one of the coalition's component parties.
Its director-general Surayati Ibrahim, in a statement, said Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) has yet to provide the RoS with information and relevant documents as requested in the notice to them under Section 14 (2) of the Societies Act 1966.
Last month, the opposition coalition had filed a civil suit to compel the courts to instruct the RoS to respond to the coalition’s registration application.
Earlier this month, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the RoS has been professional in handling the PH registration issues and probe into the status of PPBM.
He said the problem with the application lies with the PPBM.
It was reported that PPBM faced the risk of being disbanded under Section 14 (5) of the Societies Act 1966 if it failed to submit information and documents pertaining to the minutes of branch meetings, divisions and centres, as well as party financial statements to the RoS.
Surayati had stated before that notice to submit the information and documents under Section 14 (2) of the same Act has been sent to PPBM, effective Feb 28.
She said the notice was sent to the party’s secretary-general and PPBM was required to answer and submit all information and documents as stipulated in the notice to RoS.
Notice 14 (2) is a notice referring to matters directed by RoS to submit minutes of meetings of branches, divisions and centres and the details of the party’s financial statements.
The notice was issued following complaints lodged by PPBM members to RoS. The information is needed to complete the investigation.
