KOTA BARU: An Orang Asli from the Temiar tribe is expected to contest under the Opposition ticket at the Galas state seat in Gua Musang in the coming 14th General Election (GE14).
The 31-year-old Nasir Dollah is believed to be the first Orang Asli selected as an election candidate in the country’s history.
Nasir is from Kampung Kensau near Pos Ber.
“In the Galas state seat, there are more than 5,000 Orang Asli voters,” said sources.
The sources said the former SMK Tengku Indra Petra (1) student is also a former Malaysia Rubber Board staff.
“Besides being active in several non-governmental organisations and other community works, he is also a state sportman,” said the source.
Meanwhile, state Opposition deputy chairman Chua Chin Hui said: “The opposition pact will be facing other candidates in the Galas state seat such as those from Pas and Barisan Nasional in the coming general election,” he said when contacted by the NSTP.
