KUALA LUMPUR: Heng Sinn Yee, the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Cheras, is working hard in her campaign despite giving birth to a baby boy just two weeks ago.
She is currently in confinement period for the entire month, as commonly practiced by Malaysian-Chinese mothers.
The homemaker said she is unperturbed as the desire to serve the people pushed her to run.
Heng, who is MCA Wanita chief for Cheras said this will be her first attempt at running for office and admitted that it will be an uphill battle.
Heng, who has been with MCA for 12 years, is up against DAP veteran Tan Kok Wai, the incumbent in Cheras.
“We understand it is very hard to win, but that doesn’t mean we just leave it and do nothing
“At the very least, we can reduce the opposition’s winning majority.
“Nothing is impossible,” she told the New Straits Times.
Heng lives with her family in Cheras, which gives her a local advantage.
The mother of four also makes use of the social media to her advantage in reaching out to people more effectively.
Heng said she also enjoys strong support from her husband, Datuk Toh Kian Kok.
“He fully understands the enormous emotional and physical energy needed in an election campaign.
“He will manage expectations, always communicate and find ways to integrate family time into the campaign.” said Heng.
