KOTA KINABALU: Local opposition Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) president Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan was issued with a bankruptcy notice which appeared in two local dailies today, ahead of nomination day for the general election on Saturday.
The notice has been issued against the Bingkor state constituency incumbent by Lee Yau Cheong @ James for a sum of RM480,489.40.
Jeffrey was given seven days to pay after the notice was served, in line with the Sessions Court judgment here on March 9 this year.
It was done by the order of High Court of Sabah and Sarawak here, the notice stated.
It was understood that Jeffrey had asked his lawyers to settle the matter but he was unreachable for comments so far.
Talks were rife that Dr Jeffrey, the younger brother of Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, planned to let go of Bingkor and contest in Tambunan seat held by Pairin in the election, as well as running for Keningau parliamentary seat.
Pairin previously talked about earlier retirement but words on the ground is that he might still be fielded for either the Tambunan or Keningau seat.
