CYBERJAYA: There is no issue concerning Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's term as PKR president, even after holding the post for three terms.
PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil said this is because Anwar still holds the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and unity government's leadership council chairman position, which allows him to be the prime minister after the 16th general election.
"There is no issue, as Anwar still holds the position of PH and unity government leadership council. So, there is no conflict in that matter.
"PKR does indeed have a three-term limit for the president's position, but at this time, there is no issue.
"Anwar can continue serving as prime minister now and even for the next term," said Fahmi after launching 2024 National Courier Day here today.
Also present were his deputy minister Teo Nie Ching and ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa.
Anwar has held the position of PH chairman since 2020.
On Nov 7, PKR secretary-general Datuk Fuziah Salleh said Anwar would continue as PKR president during the party's election, which is expected to take place next year.
This came after questions arose about whether the term after the upcoming election would be Anwar's last as PKR president, a role he has held since 2018, and his position within the government.
On Oct 27, Anwar had called for the PKR election to be expedited.
Anwar said speeding up the election would create opportunities for collaboration between younger members and veteran leaders, allowing them to work together to manage the party more effectively.
