KOTA BARU: The government will not trim down the size of the public service in the country in order to make way for the National Transformation 2050 (TN50).
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa said such an issue would not arise as the government would certainly create a new role in its various service delivery.
“We do not rule out that there will a number of changes or improvements due to innovation and creativity, but what is more important is that we take the changes as a challenge.
“Perhaps, a certain percentage of the current posts are irrelevant but they will be replaced with new posts. In this case, the issue of sizing down the civil service does not arise,” he said.
He told this to reporters after delivering his message to Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) personnel and students, here on Tuesday.
Also present were National Association of Wives of Civil Servants and Women Civil Servants (Puspanita) president Datuk Seri Rohani Abdullah and UMK vice-chancellor Datuk Husaini Omar.
Ali said TN50 had been the vision of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in making Malaysia as a developed nation by 2050 through the appropriate policies, programmes and projects.
“It is an effort to place Malaysia among the top 20 countries in the world,” he said.
At the ceremony, UMK and Puspanita signed a memorandum of understanding to expand ties between both parties by having the Puspanita Community Care Award.
Ali, who is also Puspanita advisor, handed over an endowment contribution of RM50,000 to the entrepreneurial university. - Bernama
