MIRI: There should not be any more debate on Sarawak Barisan Nasional’s candidate list for the 14th General Election (GE14), says state Assistant Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin.
The selection of the 31 BN candidates, he said, was made after careful consideration and a rigorous vetting process.
He said the decision was final and that each BN component party should focus on ensuring that the candidates secure a victory for the party.
“For example, in the Miri parliamentary seat, Datuk Sebastian Ting, the former representative of Piasau, was named as BN’s candidate to seize the parliamentary seat from PKR.
“By tradition, BN state assemblymen should not contest parliamentary seats. But the situation is different in Miri and the leaders have their reasons for deciding so,” he said.
Lee, who is the former representative of Senadin and Sarawak United People’s Party vice-president, said this after attending a Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) event.
Lee said it was not the time to question the credentials of those who had been selected, as efforts were needed to ensure a win for BN candidates.
A big win for BN in GE14, he said, was key towards ensuring that the voices and rights of the people were heard at the Federal level.
“People must place their trust in the chief minister, Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Abang Openg, in ensuring that the rights in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 are returned to Sarawak.”
