SEGAMAT: The announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak that Segamat will be part of the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) would enable the district to enjoy a rapid economic growth in the future.
Additionally, the development of the Gemas-Johor Baru Electric Double Tracking Project (EDTP) will become the catalyst for the development and transformation of Segamat and Johor while the redevelopment of the Segamat Inland Port is expected to be a boost for the people here.
The Barisan Nasional manifesto for the Segamat Parliament, which outlined seven projects that would be carried out in the area, was expected to bring prosperity to the people in the area.
Resident Md Shamsir Mustaffa, 55, said he felt that the plans made through the blue print and manifesto were realistic and able to bring prosperity not only to the people here by also those living in the vicinity.
“To me, all the efforts and plannings would bring benefits to the people in Segamat today, as well as promising a better future for generations to come.
“They would provide an economic boost especially in terms of income generation for the people, with new job opportunities in various sectors that would be created from the transformation programmes to be implemented here.
“Besides that, facilities like EDTP would also provide convenient for the people to move from one destination to another in the future. This infrastructure would bring in various benefits especially in creating side industries,” he said.
Shamsir, a staff at the Segamat Specialist Hospital, hoped that the development and transformation programmes would be realised to bring prosperity to the people of Segamat.
Meanwhile, Bukit Tunggal resident Suhairi Ibrahim welcomed all the plans that are provided by the government to improve the economic prosperity of the area, which in turn would benefit the people.
“In my opinion, all the planned projects would benefit the society of all levels here. We may not see the benefits of these projects in the near future, but it will be enjoyed by the future generation.
“I was informed that most of these project would include the participation of the local people and this is something that is very good for the community in Segamat. This does not includes the other economic sectors that might be created from these plans,” said Suhairi.
