CHERAS: DAP incumbent for the Cheras parliamentary seat, Tan Kok Wai, 60, has retained his seat for the eighth term with a majority-vote of 49,665.
The DAP chairman secured 56,671 votes against Barisan Nasional’s Heng Sinn Yee who only managed 7,006 votes.
Election Commission Returning Officer Ismail Musa announced the results at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Bintang Selatan at 11.40pm. EC recorded 275 spoilt votes and 122 unreturned votes.
Tan first contested under the PKR banner at the Sungai Besi parliamentary seat in 1986 and won with a majority of 1,562 votes. After the 1995 re-delineation exercise, the Sungai Besi parliamentary constituency was divided into two — Cheras and Bandar Tun Razak.
In the 13th General Election, Tan defeated Teoh Chee Hooi of BN with a 37,409 majority-vote.
