Hishammuddin: Perlis 'turmoil' should never have happened

KUALA LUMPUR: The turmoil in Perlis over the appointment of Datuk Seri Azlan Man as menteri besar and ‘efforts’ to sack him from Umno should never have happened.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said he was sure that Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail had taken everything into consideration, especially that of his subjects, when appointing Azlan.

“We should respect his decision. Furthermore, any move to sack a party member should be brought before the Umno disciplinary board... this is the prerogative of the Umno Supreme Council and does not (fall under the jurisdiction) of the state liaison committee chairman.

“At a time when Umno is still in the recovery process, the people are watching and assessing our every action. The rakyat has given (Barisan Nasional) the mandate to lead in Perlis and this trust (in BN) should be (paid back by leading) with integrity.”

Hishammuddin reminded every Umno leader that they needed to give their best in order to win over the hearts and minds of the people.
