BUKIT MERTAJAM: There are no issues between PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and party deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, despite speculations that the latter may be contesting the party president’s post next month.

According to PKR vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar, such speculations have been rife but there seems to be no issues between Anwar and Azmin, as could be seen during their recent meeting in Turkey.

“In fact, both look harmonious during the meeting.

“Even (Datuk Seri) Azmin, who is also the Economic Affairs Minister, has acknowledged the importance for (Datuk Seri) Anwar to contest the party presidency, to return the right to him as the party founder.

“Before this, (Datuk Seri) Anwar was denied his right as he had to deal with a crippled judiciary. He should be given the opportunity to contest now,” she said when met after officiating the Sekolah Menengah Islam Al Masriyah Awards Day ceremony here today.

PKR, Nurul Izzah said, had always practised the concept of giving the righful space to those who had been denied of their rights to contest, including party vice president Rafizi Ramli.

“Surely in the history of any party, there will be a strong sentiment, and in PKR’s case, (Datuk Seri) Anwar’s name has always been synonymous with the party.

“PKR adopts the ‘govern our decision’ concept which balances history and the need for democracy.

“When all falls into place, then it will bring about a more balanced decision for the strong foundation of the party and the people’s interest,” she said.

Nurul Izzah added the contest in the party was not to fight for posts but to ensure the reformation policy continued for the good of the people.
