KUALA LUMPUR: The youngest member of Parliament affirms that he is the representative of Malaysia.
During his first debate motion, the 22-year-old Batu MP (PH-PKR) started with patriotic sentiment at the Dewan Rakyat proceedings during the debate on the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s opening address.
“I am not the representative of the Indian community nor Malays or even the Chinese community. I am a representative for Malaysians,” P Prabakaran said to thunderous support from the Dewan Rakyat members.
He also congratulated all the MPs even the opposition and urged them to lead the people to a better Malaysia.
“From the recently held 14th General Election, we have seen Malaysian people who were united and transcend religion, race and hierarchy to contribute to the change in the nation.
“When i was younger, I have always heard about the rising economy which led to Malaysia being referred to as the Tiger of Asia.
“I want to be part of the people and we have to make the change to what it once was,” he said, adding that there are six cores in developing the nation.
Elaborating, Prabakaran said the six are safety, unity, health, economy and infrastructure cores.
He also urged the political parties to avoid any dirty politics and urged them to involve the youth as he applauded the proposal to reduce the voting age to 18 years old.
Prabakaran also ended his speech with a poem, “Not too young to be an MP, not too old to be the Prime Minister."
