KUALA LUMPUR: Pas information chief Nasrudin Hassan has defended an Aidiladha sermon by the Kelantan Pas Ulama Council on the issue of the LGBT community; and criticised Religious Affairs minister Dato’ Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa for saying religion should be free from politics.
Nasrudin was responding to an unnamed Kelantan Amanah leader who reportedly said that the sermon could sow discord amongst the people and was a challenge to the government.
“In the sermon, it was merely pointed out that illegal sexual activities involving the LGBT community are against Islam, and that the government should take stern action against them instead of catering to the LGBT community’s requests.
“How can this be considered as inciting hatred against the government and causing disharmony? We merely want the government to take action,” he said.
In a press statement released today, Nasrudin also took to task Mujahid for not taking action against transgender activist Nisha Ayub, discussions about gay marriage, and an alleged three-day ‘gay party’ to be held at the end of the month at G-Tower here.
“Why is there no action being taken against the LGBT community, which is now so outspoken?
“I also want to call out Mujahid for saying that religion should be free from politics, as reported in an online news portal.
“Islam and politics cannot be separated in Islam, (as religion) should be the guide for leaders on how to manage a country,” he said.
Nasrudin added that if religion and politics were separated, many sinful activities would be committed with impunity.
