KOTA BHARU: Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa is of the opinion that the potential transition of power for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister should take place smoothly without creating any complications for the rakyat.
Expressing his personal views, Annuar said he felt the Port Dickson by-election should not be made complicated as the rakyat was tired with all the 'drama' and political crisis.
"The country's funds should not be wasted. The government should focus on their agenda of helping the rakyat, this is not seen now as we see a series of exacting revenge and pointing of fingers.
"In this context, DSAI (Anwar) should be given a role in 'nation building' as soon as possible.. something he had been denied for 20 years.
"There is no reason why he should be stopped...except... (wait for the next posting)," Annuar teased via his Facebook page.
Port Dickson's incumbent MP Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah announced yesterday that he would be vacating the seat in order to allow for a by-election for Anwar to contest in for his return to Parliament and subsequently to be made Malaysia's eighth Prime Minister.
Commenting further, Annuar who is also Ketereh MP, said whether or not Barisan Nasional (BN) would be fielding a candidate in the by-election would be decided by the coalition's central leadership and all decisions would be adhered to.
He said the Port Dickson by-election was one of a kind as it was a process to fulfill the promise to make Anwar the eighth Prime Minister.
"Secondly, it is a political comeback after DSAI was ousted by TM (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) and jailed for abuse of power and later sodomy, of which he has earned a royal pardon for the latter.
"Thirdly, DSAI was an Umno star who was then told by TM that he was not qualified to become Prime Minister or an Umno member. Umno was asked to reject DSAI totally.
"Now TM is the one saying DSAI is the most suitable to take over from him. We are all having headaches and are now in a dilemma. If not for the crisis, DSAI was among the Umno leaders that was influential and loved by party members," he added.
