PORT DICKSON: Port Dickson constituents place high hopes for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to bring about positive changes in the area should he win the upcoming by-election and eventually becomes the prime minister.
Resident Mohamad Yusof, 46, said Anwar’s decision to contest for the seat was seen as an opportunity to develop tourism sector in the district that was on the decline.
“Port Dickson must continue to strive as the destination of choice for both domestic and foreign tourists. We need to offer added values to attract more visitors.
“I hope the government would improve the public facilities including jetty for the public to dock and board the boats. Many outsiders complained that they did not have a proper location for fishing, particularly,” he said.
He said Port Dickson would be more appealing to visitors if the abandoned projects were revived.
Farhan Che Hasan, 28, said he hoped Anwar would propose the construction of a bridge over Sungai Lukut in Kuala Lukut for the benefit of the residents.
“Currently those from Chuah have to travel 20km to get to Port Dickson town. With the bridge, we are able to cut travelling distance by half and reduce traffic congestion in Lukut.
“It will also spur fishing activities in the area. I hope the authorities will listen and act on our plights and hopes to see Port Dickson to be more prosperous,” he said.
Meanwhile, Amir Ahmad Razali, 22, said Port Dickson would be developed better with a member of parliament who is also the prime minister.
“The prime minister would definitely want the constituency he was representing to develop further and the timing could not be better.
“I hope there will be suitable recreational centres for youths here.
“We should also attract more investors to build water theme park that would see more families coming here,” he said.
