GUA MUSANG: Mohd Hafzan Hanafi from Kampung Serian is hoping to see a change in the form of better infrastructure for his village after the Nenggiri state seat by-election concludes on Aug 17.
The 47-year-old said he and some 1,000 villagers are hoping the Kelantan state government and the federal administration will pay greater attention to improving roads and other infrastructures such as street lights in their village.
These issues, he said, needed to be addressed immediately to ensure the safety of villagers when they enter and exit the village.
"Although we are looking forward to other basic instructions, better road connectivity is the most important for us all.
"Regardless of, who is in power or whether the state or federal government, we are hoping that they will be people to look into our needs.
"I understand that our village is located within the rural part of the constituency but our needs and welfare should be taken care of," he said.
Another villager Muhammad Othman, 28 said there would be a lot of movement, especially in the morning when parents were rushing to send their children to school.
"In addition, this road also serves as a connection between villages in this area and is used to transport agricultural produce such as rubber, bananas, and durians during the fruit season.
"Most village areas in Nenggiri constituency, including Kampung Serian, do not have street lights to illuminate the village roads at night.
"It is like entering a forest when the roads are dark, it can lead to accidents and also expose other threats such as encountering wild animals," he said.
The Nenggiri by-election is seeing a straight fight between Barisan Nasional candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani and Mohd Rizwadi Ismail of Perikatan Nasional.
The Election Commission set Aug 13 as early voting and Aug 17 as the polling day for the by-election.
