KUALA LUMPUR: Umno vice president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin is not ruling out the possibility of a new coalition which will include Pas, MCA, MIC, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Gabungan Bersatu Sabah and PKR to form Pakatan Malaysia.
“This is not impossible. With the right formula we can form a political coalition that can give Pakatan Harapan a run for its money.
“At the moment Malaysia is patterned by one political coalition against a myriad political parties. Each one has its own strength and each one has to be strategic and open to survive.
“It is not impossible for a new coalition which will include Pas, MCA, MIC, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Gabungan Bersatu Sabah and PKR to form Pakatan Malaysia instead of Pakatan Harapan,” he said in a letter to the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today.
In replying to a statement by Muhyiddin that Umno had been destroyed which was why Bersatu was formed, Khaled said Umno was still the biggest party in parliament and still has the majority trust of malays.
Khaled still believed that Umno was still a formidable party and had learned from its mistakes.
“Umno is still more dominant compared to Bersatu. We will continue to resurrect Umno as it is a movement to strengthen the malays. It is a malay institution and to Johoreans like myself, it is part of our lives.
“Umno understood the signal that the rakyat gave them after the last election but that does not mean that the party will stand in surrender and do nothing, but instead it will fix itself and restore its credibility once more.
“It is part of life. We do not regret it. We will learn from our mistakes. Umno has learnt a big lesson and we promised not to repeat our past mistakes. Insyallah, we will prevail,” Khaled said.
