Muhyiddin proposes fair and equitable sharing of the country's prosperity

PUTRAJAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today suggested that the new Bumiputera Agenda be renamed ‘Pelan Kemakmuran Bersama’ to ensure the country’s prosperity is shared fairly and equitably by all citizens.

Addressing the delegates on the second day of the Bersatu general assembly today, Muhyiddin said this was to ensure fair economic sharing in the country.

“The key prerequisite of this policy is that the country’s prosperity is shared fairly and equitably by all citizens regardless of race, class and territory,” he said.

He said the success of the policy depends on sustainable economic growth, hence giving everyone the opportunity.

“If the economy is not doing well, nothing that can be shared by the people. This will cause them to fight.

“Therefore, in the spirit of new Malaysia, we must recognise the involvement of all races in various sectors of the economy,” he said.

Muhyiddin said in drafting the new agenda, it must engage all parties; the Malay economic bodies, business community of all races, industry players, corporate members, economists, professional bodies, non-governmental organisations and Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties.

In his speech, he also called for the Malays to stop relying on government assistance, and race based political parties forever.

“It is high time for the Malays to be independent and able to compete. This is the real indication of our success.

“It is true that the help of the government is important and so are Malay political parties, but it does not always mean we should depend on this ‘rope’.

“I belief the Malays can stand on their own and are able to compete locally and internationally to narrow the economic gap between races, classes and regions,” he said.
