PETALING JAYA: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged the police to investigate an author who allegedly blackmailed him to prevent from publishing a defamatory book.
Anwar said PKR’s Sungai Petani Member of Parliament Datuk Johari Abdul had lodged a police report against the author who claimed to have written a manuscript titled Mengapa Anwar Tak Boleh Jadi PM (Why Anwar Cannot Be Prime Minister).
“A police report has been made against this writer who has been paid. Investigation and necessary action should be taken against him,” he said after attending a Hari Raya do with the Malaysian-Indian Business Council.
Earlier, Johari told reporters that he had lodged a police report at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters over the matter.
Johari said the author had contacted him and asked to meet Anwar, saying he was offered RM400,000 for the book that he had written.
“He said if Datuk Seri (Anwar) was willing to give him more than RM400,000, he was ready to hand over the manuscript to him,” said Johari.
The 16-chapter manuscript, he added, contained allegations of homosexuality, corruption, as well as claims that Anwar was a Zionist agent and a kowtow to the United States.
Johari also said the book had questioned the royal pardon granted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to Anwar for the latter’s sodomy conviction.
