SHAH ALAM: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today reiterated that he has no interest in holding a Cabinet post at present, even in the event of a reshuffle.
He repeated that he has no plans of joining Cabinet and has not made any request on the matter.
“I’ve said it before. I didn’t apply (to join Cabinet). To me, the understanding is clear (to be the eighth Prime Minister) and I will wait.
“I have no intention (of joining Cabinet before becoming PM),” he told reporters when met at the Ideal Convention Centre here, after attending the Otai Reformis Convention.
Prior to the 14th general election on May 9 last year, Pakatan Harapan agreed that Anwar would take over from Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as Prime Minister after an unspecified period of time.
Dr Mahathir had previously said the power handover would occur in about one or two years – but later changed his statement, saying it could be up to three years.
Anwar, however, told the Dewan Rakyat last month that the transition will take place in exactly two years (from the date of Dr Mahathir’s appointment at seventh Prime Minister), which would be May 2020.
