Amanah Youth: Use Warisan logo to contest in Sabah polls

KOTA KINABALU: All parties allied to Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) should contest under the Warisan banner in the state election this time, urged Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).

Amanah youth wing communication director Khairuddin Daud said representing and contesting under one logo would show unity and support to local-based Warisan led by interim Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

"Amanah Youth is of the view that in the state election, all parties that support the leadership of the current interim Chief Minister such as Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties - Amanah, DAP and PKR - as well as United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) - should use one logo, the Warisan logo, in each state constituency being contested.

"Therefore, Amanah Youth suggests all parties (allied to Warisan) to use its logo as a sign of our solidariy in defending the people's mandate in the 16th State Election and rejecting unscrupulous political leaders," he said in a statement today.

Khairuddin said despite being pressured, threatened and lured by Perikatan Nasional leaders to topple Shafie-led state government, Warisan elected representatives continued to defend the people's mandate until the Sabah State Legislative Assembly dissolved.

He called for Sabah voters, especially young voters, to reject leaders who were considered "frogs" during Sabah election due to the rakyat's frustration towards the attitude of political leaders who were only concerned about their personal interest.

On July 30, Shafie, who is Warisan president dissolved the state assembly, paving the way for a snap election to be held within 60 days. The dissolution was consented by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin.

The announcement came after former chief minister Tan Sri Musa Aman, on July 29, staked a claim to form a new state government after claiming to have securing a simple majority to take over Shafie-led government.

The former chief minister was backed by several lawmakers, who crossed over from the Warisan-Sabah PH- Upko pact.

In GE14, the Sabah state assembly had 65 state seats, with 60 being elected and another five nominated.

The Parliament had in July last year approved 13 new state seats for Sabah.

The additional seats are (N02) Bengkoka, (N06) Bandau, (N08) Pintasan, (N13) Pantai Dalit, (N17) Darau, (N24) Tanjung Keramat, (N27) Limbahau, (N44) Tulid, (N47) Telupid, (N51) Sungai Manila, (N58) Lamag, (N61) Segama, and (N70) Kukusan.
