Wong Kah Woh is new PAC chairman

KUALA LUMPUR: Wong Kah Woh (Pakatan Harapan - Ipoh Timur) is the new Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman replacing Higher Education Minister Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad (Barisan Nasional - Parit Sulong).

The new PAC vice-chairman is Datuk Azizah Dun (BN - Beaufort) replacing Wong who previously held the position under the PH government.

The motion to appoint the two names was tabled by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Last week, Wong urged the government to immediately appoint new members of the PAC since matters related to the committee had been delayed for several months due to a change of government in late Feb this year.

Wong said without new members, the PAC would not be able to perform its duties, hold meetings or even prepare a report.

So far, the PAC had only met nine times this year as compared to previous years where the committee members met about 60 times a year.

The role of the PAC, which is a bipartisan committee, among others includes examining the accounts of the federation and the appropriation of the sums granted by the parliament to meet the public expenditure.
