KUALA LUMPUR: Muar MP, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, fulfilled his vow to shave his head bald after meeting a campaign contribution target of RM200,000 to buy laptops for students in his parliamentary constituency.
The shaving session, which was begun by his mother, Sharifah Mahani Syed Abdul Aziz, was carried out live on a local television show.
"Bismilahirrahmanirahim (In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful)... for the sake of the people," said Sharifah Mahani as she started shaving her son's head.
The shaving was then taken over by a professional barber.
On the programme, Syed Saddiq also shared the experience of having his hair trimmed by his mother when he was 6 years old.
Earlier, the former Minister of Youth and Sports launched the #1keluarga1laptop campaign with the goal that every family in the Muar constituency would have a laptop for the use of their children.
He targeted 500 families earning below RM1,500 who have children pursuing their education at institutions of higher learning.
The campaign managed to raise RM383,000 in five days.
"So far, 120 families in the Muar constituency have received the laptops," he said. - Bernama
