No need for shadow government, says Warisan

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) says there was no need for opposition parties to form a shadow cabinet at a time when people are facing challenging times.

Warisan Wira deputy chief Ismail Ayub, in a statement, said what the opposition should do instead was to continue with their role as check and balances to the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government in the battle against Covid-19 pandemic.

He said the focus should also be given to assisting people especially in managing health and economic issues, instead of politicking.

Ismail was commenting on the recent request made by United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) president Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau to opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to form a shadow cabinet, following the government's declaration of state of emergency.

"Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, in an interview, had explained that Malaysia could no longer be controlled by the same leader. It is time for Malaysia to get out of the old way of thinking. Enough with Anwar, enough with Mahathir.

"We cannot deny the development brought by previous leaders, but we need to get out of the cocoon of old thinking and move forward as Bangsa Malaysia, governed by the Constitution," he said.
