Prepare for next GE, MCA tells members

KUALA LUMPUR: The 67th MCA Annual General Meeting (AGM) today urged party members to prepare for the next General Election under the integrated guidance of the mechanism and strategies of Barisan Nasional (BN).

This, it said, was to help win back the trust of the people and establish a free, democratic and fair Malaysia for all.

This was among seven resolutions passed by the general assembly, which was conducted in a hybrid format due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with 95 delegates being present physically at the MCA headquarters here and the remaining 1,125 delegates attending virtually.

"The General Assembly adheres to MCA's political ideologies to promote the spirit of pluralism and moderation, and serve all people regardless of ethnicity. The General Assembly urges an end to political conflicts. All parties must concentrate on stopping the pandemic, helping the people and revitalising the economy," it said.

The resolution added that delegates also agreed to support the government's effort in providing free Covid-19 vaccinations, prioritising frontliners, high-risk and vulnerable groups; and also proposed that the planning of vaccination be scheduled according to the reopening of economic sectors.

The delegates also applauded Perikatan Nasional (PN) for bringing education policies back on track, which included the construction and relocation of vernacular schools (SJKC), and the allocation of education funds.

They also supported government measures to quell the pandemic and hasten the return to normalcy, while expressing the party's appreciation to the frontliners for their great contributions to safeguard public health.

On economy, the delegates backed the government's implementation of the 2021 Budget.

They also called on the government to formulate measures to assist groups and sectors hardest hit by the pandemic in order to facilitate a comprehensive economic recovery and increase general income. -- BERNAMA
