PH names Adly for Melaka CM

MELAKA: Pakatan Harapan (PH) Melaka chairman Adly Zahari has been named the coalition's sole chief minister candidate.

Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said PH has been consistent with its narrative to return the people's mandate and shown a good example of leadership with Adly who had formerly served as the Melaka chief minister.

"If Perikatan Nasional and Barisan Nasional win, there will be a conflict on who will be the chief minister.

"On this matter, a consensus has been made by the top leadership to continue the same commitment to name Adly Zahari as the chief minister candidate.

"When we win, he will be the CM, InsyaAllah," he said during the launching of PH's action plan, Maju Bersama Harapan at Lacrista Hotel here, today.

Adly, who is Amanah deputy president, will be contesting the Bukit Katil seat which he won with a majority of 3,159 votes during the 14th general election in 2018.

After serving the state government for 22 months, Adly lost the position after losing the confidence of the state assembly members following former DAP member Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee and several others announcing their support for the Perikatan Nasional government.

At the same event, Adly announced PH's action plan which consisted of three main thrusts containing six strategies and 32 initiatives.

One of the thrusts is to implement administrative reforms in Melaka which included enacting the anti-party-hopping bill, recognising the status of the opposition leader equivalent to an exco, distributing equal allocation for all state assemblymen despite their political backgrounds as well as requiring all representatives to declare their assets.

The Melaka state election was sparked following the dissolution of its state assembly on Oct 4 after four state assemblymen withdrew their support for then chief minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali from Umno.

Melaka has 495,196 registered voters and the Election Commission predicts a 70 per cent turn-out for polling day on Nov 20.
