KOTA BARU: Pas will continue to give its strong support to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob following earlier pledges made by the party's leadership.
Its vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said he was surprised over recent remarks by several Umno leaders regarding the matter.
"Pas has no problems with this issue (supporting the Prime Minister) as the party is already in the Prime Minister's government.
"We will give him full support until the Parliament is dissolved to make way for the 15th General Election (GE15) to be held.
"But we were shocked after knowing there are leaders in Umno who have issued statements which contradict each other," he told the NST.
Mohd Amar who is also deputy Menteri Besar said Pas believed this happened because there were internal problems in Umno.
It was reported recently that several Umno divisions in Kelantan have expressed their support for Ismail Sabri to continue leading the country until the last term of Parliament ends.
Ketereh UMNO division chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa said strong support and confidence should be given to Ismail Sabri as he had proven his competence by administering the country in the first three months with excellence.
He said all policies and plans organised by the Prime Minister showed signs that the government was on the right track.
Therefore, the Communications and Multimedia Minister said Ismail Sabri should be given sufficient opportunities until the end of the 14th Parliament in 2023.
Last week, Machang Umno chief Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub said the division had unanimously passed a motion to nominate Ismail Sabri as Prime Minister if Barisan Nasional wins GE15.
