Umno's past betrayals rule out future trust: Pas veep

KOTA BARU: Pas intends to maintain its alliance with Perikatan Nasional (PN) and has no intention of collaborating with Umno said Pas vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah.

He said that the Islamic party has had negative experiences with Umno and will not trust the party again.

"Pas will continue its political cooperation within PN. We have had enough experiences with Umno and cannot trust the party again, especially its leaders," he said.

"The party's leaders are big liars. If he can break the oaths that he made in the name of God, he can easily break his promise to humans," he added.

The Panchor assemblyman said that if Umno does not wish to work with Pas, the feeling is mutual.

"Ayam tak patuk, itik tak sudu. Kamu tak hendak, kami pun tak mahu (a proverb translating meaning translating to, if you don't want us, we don't want you either)," he said.

Mohd Amar was responding to Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's recent statement that Umno will not collaborate with Pas as long as Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang remains its president.

The Umno president said this follows his experience working together with the Marang member of Parliament, who he claimed is always inconsistent with his stance.

Zahid, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister and Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, cited an incident in the past where he had a private meeting with Hadi.

Without disclosing the details of the meeting, Zahid claimed that Hadi had initially agreed on the outcome before changing his mind the following day.
