'I am still PBM president'

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Bangsa Malaysia's (PBM) Larry Sng insisted he is still president of the party.

The Julau member of Parliament took to his Facebook account today to refute a report by a news portal that he had been replaced as party president by Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin.

In the same social media posting, Sng also stressed that he had not resigned as PBM president and that he would not do so in the event of the 15th General Election being around the corner.

"Inaccurate reporting. What I said was that it is my intention for Zuraida to take charge of PBM and a power transition will take place.

"Due process needs to take place in order for a proper handing over to be done," he said.

The posting was accompanied by the link to the report titled: "Zuraida replaces Larry Sng as PBM president."

The report quoted the party's information chief Zakaria Abdul Hamid as saying that Selangor PBM representative Jaafar Wahyu had proposed Zuraida to take over the party's number one position.

Zuraida, who is the Ampang Member of Parliament, is the PBM president-designate.

The same report also quoted Zakaria as saying that PBM would convene a meeting to discuss the position of Sng.

Meanwhile, Sng said he would be the one who will sign the appointment letters for candidates to be fielded by the party in GE15 in the event polls were called before the presidential transition takes place.

"Just to be clear, if the election is held before the transition is complete, I will still sign the 'watikah' (appointment letters) for the candidates (to be fielded by the party) in GE15," Sng said.

Sng was previously the PBM deputy president before being elected as the party president during the PBM special general assembly, which took place in January this year.

Zuraida in May had announced her decision to leave Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in favour of PBM.

The following month, Sng had announced that the party had appointed Zuraida as its president-designate.

Sng, when making the announcement, had said that the decision to appoint Zuraida as PBM president-designate was agreed by the party's political bureau and its supreme council.
