GE15: Penang DAP to meet today if Parliament is dissolved [NSTTV]

GEORGE TOWN: Penang DAP will meet later today to decide its the next course of action if Parliament is dissolved to make way for the 15th General Election (GE15).

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state DAP committee meeting would decide on whether the state assembly would be dissolved as well.

"Notwithstanding what was announced before this, we will see if the state assembly would be dissolved together with parliament.

"We will see and we will decide (during the meeting).

"We will consider the monsoon period and other aspects," he said after a walkabout in Little India here.

It is widely speculated that Parliament will be dissolved as early as today to pave the way for GE15.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Yaakob is expected to address the nation at 3pm.

Commenting on the impending dissolution, Chow said he was not  surprised considering the events of the past week.

"All actions have pointed to this day (dissolution of parliament)," he added.

On the candidates' list for GE15, Chow said discussions on candidates for parliamentary seats would be held during today's meeting.

"We prioritise that over the candidates for  state seats.

"Any decision will be followed by  appropriate actions," he said.

On Oct 6, Chow had said that Penang would abide by Pakatan Harapan's decision to not dissolve its state assembly should GE15 be called soon.

He had said this a day after opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that PH-led states would not dissolve their legislatures should GE15 be held soon.

He had said this was to allow Selangor, Negri Sembilan and Penang leaders to focus on flood preparations and helping victims.
