GEORGE TOWN: Bukit Gelugor member of Parliament Ramkarpal Singh won the highest votes in the Top 15 race for the state DAP elections.
The former state DAP committee member garnered 1,247 votes.
Closely trailing him was Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong, who is also Penang DAP vice chairman with 1,237 votes, while former DAP assistant organising secretary Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin received 1,225 votes.
State executive council members Zairil Khir Johari, Daniel Gooi Zi Sen and H'ng Mooi Lye came in fourth, fifth, and seventh place with 1,166 votes, 1,133 and 1,074 votes respectively.
Former state DAP assistant organising secretary Lay Hock Peng was in sixth place with 1,120 votes.
Pulau Tikus assemblyman Joshua Woo Sze Zeng came in eighth with 1,047 votes, Sungai Puyu assemblyman Phee Syn Tze in ninth place with 886 votes while former state DAP assistant secretary Lim Siew Khim at 10th place with 870 votes.
The other five are former state DAP assistant treasurer Datuk Lip Chee (853 votes), Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying (827 votes), former state DAP committee member Phee Boon Chee (812 votes), Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng (722 votes) and Jelutong member of parliament RSN Rayer (644 votes)
Among the biggest casualties are Deputy Chief Minister Jagdeep Singh Deo and state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai.
Other state assemblymen who did not make the cut include Heng Lee Lee (Berapit), Joseph Ng (Air Itam) K. Kumaran (Bagan Dalam), and Ong Ah Teong (Batu Lanchang).
The Top 15 are currently sitting to decide on the new line-up for the 2024-2027 term.
A total of 1,452 ballot papers were issued with 85 votes
