PUTRAJAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) will consider working with Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) only if the the party was serious about political cooperation for the 15th General Election (GE15).
Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said issues related to political cooperation between both Malay-based parties, however, needs to be discussed and decided by Bersatu's Supreme Council.
As of today, Muhyiddin said no one from Pejuang had reached out to him over the matter.
"The matter (political cooperation between all Malay parties to go against Umno in the polls) had been proposed previously.
"However, the proposal did not produce any result.
"Therefore, I am not sure if the latest proposal (on the political cooperation between Bersatu and Pejuang) is something that is serious or otherwise," Muhyiddin, who is the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman, told reporters here today.
He was asked to comment on the statement by Pejuang chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad that the latter is ready to cooperate with any party that is "sebulu" (parties with the same goal) to face the polls.
"If the other party is serious about working together, we will consider the matter.
"However, the matter needs to be discussed among the party's supreme council before any decision can be made.
"As for PN, we are ready to face the polls," Muhyiddin said.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Dr Mahathir was asked to comment if Pejuang was ready to work alongside any parties including Bersatu to contest against Umno in GE15.
"We must think about who is the worse traitor," Dr Mahathir had said.
