"Disturbance during PH rally was not a gimmick," says Muda

JOHOR BAHRU: Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) has denied claims that the disturbance by a group of rowdy motorcyclists during a Pakatan Harapan mega rally on Sunday was a gimmick.

Johor Muda chairman Azrol Rahani said the accusation was baseless and malicious.

He said Muar Muda lodged a police report on the provocation yesterday and denied the party's involvement in the incident.

"We have all video recordings and pictures of those involved and have handed them over to the police when we lodged the report.

"This is to facilitate the police in their investigations and to locate those who are responsible for directing and paying the people involved in the provocation.

"I strongly condemn their actions which caused discomfort to the people of Muar who attended the rally. Then there are those who claimed that this was a gimmick by Muda, which is baseless and malicious. We would let the police investigate and find those responsible," said Azrol in a statement.

Meanwhile, Barisan Nasional urged Muda to apologise to Umno and the coalition.

Its Johor election operation director Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi this is because Muda's accusation that Umno and BN were behind the incident had given them a bad image.

"As the BN Johor election operation director, I strongly deny Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman's accusation, which has given a bad image to Umno and BN. In fact, the baseless accusation has been denied by the Muar Umno youth chief Mohd Helmy Abd Latiff.

"Syed Saddiq has to be responsible for the accusation and provocation that aroused people's hatred towards Umno and BN.

"Stop this immature politics. I demand him to openly apologise to Umno and BN immediately," said Onn Hafiz in a statement.

Yesterday, Muar Umno Youth lodged a police report on the incident and plans to take legal action on Syed Saddiq's accusation that they (Umno Youth) were involved in Sunday's incident.
