KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional does not rule out the possibility of working with other coalitions if it fails to form a majority government after the 15th General Election (GE15).
BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, in an interview with NSTP Multimedia, said BN was ready for "whatever method" as long as it could form a politically-stable government.
"It's still premature to discuss the matter, (however) we are ready to do whatever it takes to form a politically-stable government.
"We do not want to see three or four prime ministers in one term. The rakyat will become the victims. So the 'method' needs to be something well-developed," he said today.
Zahid said despite the presence of five other coalitions, namely Pakatan Harapan (PH), Perikatan Nasional (PN), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA), he was confident that BN would take Putrajaya after GE15 due to its good track record.
"We have six coalitions in the country; BN, PH, PN, GRS, GPS and GTA, so voters have more options now.
"But look at their track record. BN ruled the country for over 60 years and it is a party that is not easily forgotten by the people."
Zahid said another coalition had previously ruled for 22 months, and their promises were not fulfilled even though they were led by someone who had 22 years' experience in governing.
"Another alliance took over for 17 months, and it was clearly a failed government.
"After those experiences, the government is now led by BN, of course. We want to continue the good track record for the stability of the country," he said.
Asked which coalitions BN would work with, Zahid said it would be one that is not "chauvinistic".
"They need to be open-minded and focused on implementing a national agenda.
"The rakyat was tortured during the last term. We need to resolve the situation by giving them a stable government. A government that can provide job opportunities, food on the table and money in the pocket.
"This is what the rakyat wants," he said.
