PH's Fahmi wants to focus on sustainable development in Lembah Pantai

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan's Lembah Pantai candidate, Fahmi Fadzil, said he would focus on sustainable development in the area.

In an interview with the New Straits Times, the former Pantai member of parliament said he had different priorities for different parts of Lembah Pantai.

He said among these were housing, improving first-mile and last-mile connectivity, traffic management and the issue of flood retention ponds.

Fahmi, who is contesting for the second time in Lembah Pantai, also wants to see more People's Housing Programmes in his constituency, with the priority given to the B40 group.

"Many of them live with their grandparents, parents and children. If they were to find houses of their own, they would have to move further away."

On improving connectivity, Fahmi said he was looking at integrating public infrastructure with pedestrian walkways and personal mobility devices so that people did not have to drive.

"This will help those in Kampung Kerinchi and the wider part of Kuala Lumpur."

He said another issue on the top of his list was the flood retention pond in Bangsar that was sold in 2017.

"My idea is for City Hall to buy back the land. We have to make sure that all the retention ponds are protected."

For Pantai Dalam, he wants to improve the traffic management.

"We will need to discuss with City Hall on traffic management and how we can widen the roads without increasing overall traffic density.

"Also, another thing that needs to be solved is the large number of cars left unattended in housing areas."
