SUNGAI SIPUT: Any decision on possible merger of Barisan Nasional (BN) with any other party or coalition must be discussed at the Umno Supreme Council level and not be decided individually.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob stressed that whether a new alliance was formed with a coalition of other parties or otherwise would depend on the results of the 15th General Election (GE15).
"We can't say we will merge. We don't even know yet. The decision to merge with anyone, no matter which party, is the party's decision.
"The party will make the decision. If we win and can form a government...we will form a government.
"We will cross the bridge first and then we'll decide. This is not a private decision. We may call a special Umno Supreme Council meeting to make that decision," he said.
The incumbent Bera member of parliament said this in a press conference after attending the Felda Lasah community gathering which was held at the Dewan Semai Bakti. here, today.
Also present were Felda director-general Datuk Amiruddin Abdul Satar, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and MIC president, who is also Sungai Siput parliamentary seat candidate, Tan Sri S.A. Vickneswaran.
The caretaker prime minister said that there would be a definite merger between BN and a coalition of parties from Sabah and Sarawak after GE15.
"As I mentioned in Sarawak yesterday, we will join with a coalition of parties from Sabah and Sarawak," he said.
