KOTA KINABALU: Sabah saw two independent candidates conquer Tenom and Kudat in the 15th General Election (GE15).
In the Tenom parliamentary seat, Riduan Rubin wrested the seat from incumbent Noorita Sual of Pakatan Harapan.
Riduan won with a majority of 1,108 votes, garnering a total of 10,027 votes to beat Noorita who received 8,919 votes, in a five-cornered fight.
The other candidates were Datuk Jamawi Jaafar of Barisan Nasional, Ukim Buandi (Parti Warisan) and Peggy Chaw Zhi Ting (Independent).
On Nov 11, Riduan had joined parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM).
Riduan is the son of Datuk Rubin Balang of Bersatu.
The constituency has 42,016 registered voters.
For the Kudat parliamentary seat, Datuk Verdon Bahanda won with 16, 323 votes, a 1,967 majority.
Verdon is the brother of Datuk Wetrom from Parti KDM who was contesting for the Kota Marudu parliamentary seat.
There was a five-cornered fight among Verdon, Datuk Sri Dr Ruddy Awah from GRS, Nur Alya Humairah Usun Abdullah from Parti Pejuang, Rashid Abdul Harun (Warisan), and Thonny Chee (Pakatan Harapan).
The number of registered voters in Kudat constituency was 75,724.
