Tok Mat: Let PH and PN combine to form government

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has proposed for Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) to come together and form a government.

In a Facebook posting, he said BN was ready to be the opposition and play the role of check and balance.

"We accept the decision of the people which rejected BN. With this, we have no power to form a government.

"However, if our help is needed during the election transition period, we are ready to contribute to those who are sincere and open," he said today.

Mohamad said that if the government could not be formed, then he urged the people not to blame BN.

"This is the result of a democratic process to return the mandate to the people. We respect the decision," he added.

Earlier today, PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed that negotiations between PH and BN to form a coalition federal government took place at the Seri Pacific Hotel here.

He said that the talks were focused on forming an inclusive government and improving the economy.

BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also said, in a separate press conference earlier, that BN MPs' decision to sign an agreement to support another coalition's prime minister candidate, was a violation of the party's constitution and it has never negotiated with any coalition, including PN.

Istana Negara announced that the deadline for parties to present their coalition numbers and candidates for the prime minister's post has been deferred to 2pm tomorrow.
