SHAH ALAM: Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has described Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's appointment as the 10th Prime Minister as a "symbol of wisdom and political maturity".
Amirudin said the formation of a united and cohesive government is important in facing the bitter challenges that the country is expected to face next year.
He said the 10th Prime Minister's appointment also highlighted the wisdom of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah when His Majesty suggested a unity government.
"His (Anwar) struggle was very long and he experienced twists and turns, ups and downs and clashes. Finally, Anwar is appointed as the 10th Prime Minister. I congratulate him on behalf of the state government on his appointment.
"I believe this is a symbol of political wisdom and maturity for the sake of the country's stability after each of us were tested in the last General Election (GE)," he told reporters at the annex of the Selangor State Assembly building today.
Amirudin, who is PH Selangor chairman, said the appointment is also a challenge for Anwar especially in the face of economic uncertainty expected at the beginning of next year.
Meanwhile, when asked whether he would become a Federal Minister or remain Selangor Menteri Besar after winning the Gombak Parliamentary seat in GE15, Amirudin said he prefers to be in the state as there are several state plans ncluding the First Selangor PLan (RS-1) that needed to be completed.
"Personally, I prefer to continue in Selangor. In fact, as a member parliament and a state assemblyman, I will be able to connect the two (Federal and state governmentsf better.
Amirudin said he also believed there would be no change until the state assembly is dissolved later.
