BN sec-gen reiterates party's support for PM and unity government

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir has reiterated the coalition's support for the unity government, and called for all quarters to reject any move to destabilise the administration.

He said that of late, there have been various threats made by several quarters seeking to upend political stability.

"Plenty of speculation has been played on social media by certain quarters who have lost their compass of political stability via various threats, with the aim of seeing that the country in turmoil.

"The country is in need of a stable government in order to rejuvenate the national development agenda, growth and drive to tackle the increasingly complex global challenges," he said in a statement.

Zambry, who is also Foreign Minister, said it stability is necessary for Malaysia to prosper on the world stage.

"Malaysia has to return to the global stage in order to rebuild confidence of investors and the international community. As such, the bedrock of stability has to be upheld by all segments of society," he said.

He said BN would continue to uphold the people's aspiration of a peaceful and stable country, helmed by a prime minister who has the support of all parties which form the government under the Unity Government, as decreed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

"As such, BN urges all quarters to focus on the agenda of developing the country and to reject all forms of political threats.

"BN wishes to repeat its undivided support for the Unity Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim," he said.

Zambry's statement comes in the wake of Anwar acknowledging that there was a conspiracy to topple the unity government but dismissed it as having no basis.

It was alleged that 10 BN MPs who had previously supported Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for prime minister after the 15th General Election (GE15) were involved in a plot to overthrow the government by quitting their seats to force by-elections.

A number of BN MPs, particularly from MCA, have since denied any involvement in the plot.
