KUALA LUMPUR: Former Umno leader Tan Sri Noh Omar has decided not to contest in the upcoming state elections.
The ex-Barisan Nasional (BN) Selangor chief said he decided not to contest in the state election this time to give space and opportunity for younger leaders to become people's representatives in the state.
"However, I will be campaigning because I want to continue my struggle to defeat Pakatan Harapan (PH) in Selangor after BN lost in the 12th General Election (GE12)," he told newsmen after attending the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Selangor Baharu campaign at Bangi Convention Centre last night.
Noh, who was sacked from Umno following the 15th General Election (GE15), said he believes PN has a bright chance to wrest Selangor if it goes down to a two cornered fight.
He said that he had predicted that PH would take control of Selangor while BN and Pas would lose in GE12.
He also said that BN would have won at least 10 parliamentary seats in GE15 if it did not face three cornered fights.
"I thought Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz could have won but in the end the seat went to PH. This is why I think PN can defeat PH if it avoids three-cornered fights," he said.
In January, Umno sacked Noh alongside Khairy Jamaluddin, while four others were also suspended from the party.
They were sacked for violating the party's Constitution in the GE15.
