Former Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar joins Bersatu

TANJONG KARANG: Former Selangor Umno liaison committee chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar announced today that he has joined Bersatu.

He said the drastic decision was made out of disappointment that the Kuala Lumpur High Court rejected Datuk Seri Najib Razak's application to initiate a judicial review over a purported addendum order by the former King for him to serve the remainder of his jail term under house arrest.

Noh said he was sad over the fate of the former prime minister, who must serve the remaining six years of his sentence in prison.

"I applied to join Bersatu online yesterday by filling out a form. No one knew.

"Then I immediately received a certificate confirming my membership in Bersatu," he said in a video recording shared today.

On Jan 27 last year, it was reported that the Umno supreme council had expelled Noh from the party.

This decision came after the former Tanjong Karang MP challenged Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to sack him when his membership was initially suspended for six years.

Noh said the decision to join Bersatu was difficult and it took him more than half a year to do so, because he remembered Najib's advice when he met him at the Kuala Lumpur High Court previously.

"I still remember his advice to me: 'Noh, you must be patient, do not join any party. Stay calm and patient... InsyaAllah our struggle will succeed'.

"I respected and followed his views and instructions. That is why I did not join any political party before this," he said.
