Dr Mahathir: 'What have Anwar and his ministers done for the past six months?' [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has put the spotlight on the performance of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, saying that the country is still plagued by all sorts of issues and problems since he became the country's tenth Prime Minister.

The nonagenarian who served as the country's fourth and seventh prime minister said that the Unity Government was still bogged down with political uncertainty and he warned that if the current situation persists then there could be irreversible damage.

"What has he done over the past six months?

"Our currency fell, inflation is prolonged and the economy has not recovered. What has he achieved?" he questioned during a podcast.

He also claimed that ministers were not issuing proper directives to their subordinates.

"They are on vacation. That is what I hear," said the former Langkawi Member of Parliament (MP) as reported by local news portal Free Malaysia Today (FMT).

When questioned as to whether Anwar, who at one time was his deputy and groomed as a potential successor, had tried to seek any advice from him, his answer was no.

"The question is whether he wants it or not. He does not want any advice."

Last week, Anwar hit out at critics who accused his administration of failing to manage the country's economy, pointing out a few economic indicators.

Among the indicators were the economic growth rate of 5.6 per cent which was better than that of China, and neighbours Indonesia and Singapore.

Apart from this, another indicator was the RM71.4 billion in total investments that has been secured in the first quarter of this year.

Anwar also revealed that inflation had decreased to 2.8 per cent.
