Amirudin to sue Sanusi over river project scandal allegations with Vincent Tan

KUALA LUMPUR: Caretaker Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari will take legal action against Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor for alleging that he was involved in a river project scandal with Berjaya Group founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan.

Amirudin said the allegations by Sanusi yesterday at the Jelajah Mega PN Best "Sayangi Kedah Sejahtera" at Dataran Darul Aman, Jitra were clearly slanderous.

"I strongly deny all forms of claims and accusations by Sanusi. I had explained in great length about the matter at the Selangor state legislative assembly and in a parliamentary session on March 1 this year.

"It is an attempt by a desperado who wants to shift the perception from all scandalous REE claims made against him. He has until now failed to factually answer all of the claims," said Amirudin in a statement today.

Amirudin added that he had discussed the matter with his counsel.

"I will start the legal process against Sanusi immediately on the slanderous statements he had hurled towards me," he said.

Sanusi, who is also Perikatan Nasional (PN) election director, had reportedly said Tan wanted to carry out the project worth RM10 billion at the Klang River in exchange for land spanning 600 acres in the state.

The project, claimed Sanusi, would involve Menteri Besar Incorporated and would cause the state government losses of around RM180 million.

"How can 600 acres of land be given free to this towkay (big boss)? How can this towkay take over 55 per cent of the MBI subsidiaries?

"This issue is hot, it is waiting to explode," Sanusi quoted as saying.

Sanusi also claimed that PN would serve the people and not defend towkays such as Tan or Indonesian tycoon Mohamad Reza Chalid.

He had allegedly went on to label Amirudin as a "cokia" (substandard quality) Menteri Besar who defended towkays.
