SEKINCHAN: A senior citizen, who turned up early at a polling centre here today has never missed out a chance to cast his ballot.
Jamaluddin Abdullah, 74, said he has lost track of the number of times he exercised his right as a citizen.
"I have been voting since the time when there was the sailing ship logo," he said in the reference to old logo for the Barisan Nasional coalition when it was known as Parti Perikatan.
"With this state election, I cannot remember how many times I have come out to vote," he said.
Jamaluddin cast his ballot with his wife Hatijah Ja'afar, 82, at SK Sungai Nibong, Parit 12 in Sungai Nibong this morning.
The couple live in Parit 13, Sungai Nibong and arrived at the polling centre at 8am.
"If you are eligible, then do not neglect your duty and responsibility as a Malaysian.
"Please come out and cast your vote. Each time there has been an election, I have never neglected my responsibility, so please do your part," said Jamaluddin.
The Sungai Panjang state seat will see a straight fight between Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Mohd Imran Tamrin and Mohd Razali Saari of Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Imran is defending the seat. In the 14th General Election (GE14), he defeated Pakatan Harapan's (PH) Mariam Abdul Rashid and Pas's Mohd Razali Saari.
The state seat has 40,786 registered voters.
