Mohd Amar confirms that Ahmad does not want to stay on as menteri besar

KOTA BARU: Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah has confirmed that Datuk Ahmad Yakob did not want to return as the Kelantan menteri besar.

The caretaker deputy menteri besar said since the 14th General Election (GE14), Ahmad conveyed his intention of not wanting to seek reelection in the state poll.

He said despite Ahmad's wishes, Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang initially felt that Ahmad should still be menteri besar.

"There is no issue about him being dropped because since the 14th General Election (GE14), Datuk Ahmad Yakob had wanted not to seek reelection. However, the party president insisted that should continue to lead the state.

"This time around, he was determined and the party president took note of it after taking into account his health and age factor," he said after casting his his vote at SK Panji here this morning.

Yesterday, Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the party might change the Kelantan Menteri Besar if it is given the mandate to administer the state once again after the state poll.

He said the party would introduce a combination of religious and technocrat figures for the menteri besar and deputy menteri besar post in the state.

Asked about the possibility of having two deputy menteris besar positions if Pas retains Kelantan, Mohd Amar, who is defending the Panchor state seat, said such a matter will be decided by the party and the new Menteri Besar.
