KUALA LUMPUR: Despite favourable weather conditions in the area, voter turnout was low at the SK Klang Gates polling station.
An Election Commission (EC) worker at the polling centre when met, said that as of noon, it was estimated that less than 50 per cent of voters had turned up at the SK Klang Gates polling centre.
"Unlike the 15th General Election (GE15), this time around the crowds were noticeably less.
"Usually voters will line up in the morning and the queue would even go beyond the compounds. But it is not so this time around."
He said that the centre currently has around 2,274 registered voters.
He also urged the public to exercise their right to vote.
"If they can go out and support their political parties by joining in the campaigns and ceramah, they need to seal their support by voting," he added.
Checks by the New Straits Times at the centre found a slow stream of voters trickling in since morning.
Voters were also seen being given a more comprehensive and friendly service by the EC workers stationed here due to the low turnouts.
The Election Commission in a statement said that as of noon, the state of Selangor has seen 36 per cent voter turnout whilst Kedah (41 per cent), Kelantan (34 per cent), Terengganu (42 per cent), Penang (38 per cent) and Negri Sembilan (35 per cent).
