KUALA LUMPUR: Umno veteran member Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh has called on party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to step down after a disastrous outcome in the state polls.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, the former Besut member of parliament urged the chairman of Barisan Nasional (BN), the coalition to which Umno belongs, to take responsibility and resign.
"Umno lost badly in state elections yesterday, losing 100 percent of the seats in Terengganu.
"Zahid Hamidi must resign," he said today.
Umno and BN contested in 108 seats in the state elections, managing to secure only 19.
However, the cooperation between BN and Pakatan Harapan (PH) has successfully defended the three states it previously held - Penang, Selangor, and Negri Sembilan.
