KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional is gearing up to file an election petition following Pakatan Harapan's victory in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.
Selangor PN chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the directive was given by the coalition's chairman, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, for its legal team to gather and scrutinise all relevant facts and evidence of government misconduct during the by-election.
"The evidence that we can collect on the ground will be reviewed first by the team of lawyers we have appointed before we apply to file an election petition for KKB.
"Currently, all 16 district polling centre chiefs (from PN) have commenced the collection of facts, data and evidence.
"This information will be carefully examined by our legal team, and we will prioritise the most significant cases for the election petition," he told reporters at PN headquarters.
Azmin said the timing of the petition submission would depend on the thoroughness and accuracy of the information gathered.
"Ensuring the accuracy of our data is paramount before we make any official petition submission," he said.
On May 6, opposition chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan had said PN would file an election petition should PH win the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.
The Pas secretary-general claimed the coalition has evidence of government misconduct which could allegedly sway voters in the polls.
The statement received criticism from several government leaders such as DAP secretary-general and Transport Minister Anthony Loke, who dismissed such allegations.
He challenged the opposition to immediately lodge a report with the authorities over claims of government misconduct in the by-election campaigning.
