JOHOR BARU: Unity among Barisan Nasional component parties and strategies to maintain Johor as the coalition's "deposit" will be the focus of the state BN Convention on June 8.
State BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said Johor was the first state to host a state-level BN Convention, which will be held at the Persada International Convention Centre starting at 1pm.
He said BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir were expected to attend the convention, with the former launching it.
"The main agenda is to discuss unity among our parties — MIC, MCA and Umno, as well as the Friends of BN. We will also discuss how to maintain our victory in the state election in 2022, where we took 40 of the 56 seats, and how to capture four opposition seats.
"The Johor BN Convention will address issues related to young voters, education and the economy, and representatives from MIC, MCA, and Umno will be given the opportunity to express their views," he said at the Johor Umno liaison committee meeting in preparation for the organisation of the convention.
Meanwhile, as deputy state Umno chairman, he said he would be handing over resolutions for the convention to the main leadership of the party on Saturday.
"The appointment letters for the chairmen of the BN coordination committees for the 26 divisions in Johor will also be handed over this Saturday.
"We expect 1,000 members and leaders of BN and Friends of BN to attend the convention themed 'Navigating the Struggle, Steering the Nation'," he said.
